Wireless ResNet
Configuration for Windows Vista
Click Internet
Explorer. If you have a connection, you should be directed to a page
titled “Cougar ResNet Authentication”. If you reach this page, you have
a connection to the network and everything is configured correctly. You
do NOT have to continue any further in this document. Please proceed
directly to the instructions titled “Instructions for Accessing ResNet”.
If you did not
reach the “Cougar ResNet Authentication” page, please follow the
instructions below.
1)
Select Connect to from the right side of the Windows Start
menu.

As shown below, “resnet” should appear in the list of available
networks. If “resnet” is not already connected, select it and click
Connect. (If Windows did not find any wireless networks, skip to
step 5.)
3)
Click Internet Explorer. If you get a connection, proceed
directly to the instructions titled “Instructions for Accessing ResNet”.

If Windows shows you are connected to “resnet” and you are still
unable to open web pages, skip to step 8.
5)
If Windows did not find any wireless networks, select Diagnose
why Windows can’t find any networks from the screen shown below.
If a screen appears
with the heading “The wireless network adaptor on this computer cannot
connect to a wireless network”, go to step 6. If a screen appears with
the heading “Wireless capability on this computer is turned off”, skip
to step 7.

The network adaptor is probably disabled. To enable your network
adaptor:
1.
Select Enable the network adaptor Wireless Network Connection.
2.
Click Internet Explorer. If you get a connection, proceed
directly to the instructions titled “Instructions for Accessing
ResNet”. If you are still unable to connect to the internet, return to
step 1 and follow the instructions.

The wireless switch on your computer is probably turned off.
1.
Many laptops have a switch on the front or side of the computer
that turns your wireless signal on and off. Make sure it is turned on.
Some computers also have a function key combination to turn the signal
on and off. Check the information that came with your computer for
details on locating the wireless switch or function key combination.
2.
Click Internet Explorer. If you get a connection, proceed
directly to the instructions titled “Instructions for Accessing
ResNet”. If you are still unable to connect to the internet, return to
step 1 and follow the instructions.
8)
Select Control Panel from the Windows Start menu.
9)
Under Network and Internet, select View network status
and tasks.
10)
Select Manage network connections from the menu pane on
the left.

11)
Right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon and
select Properties.

12)
Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click
Properties.
13)
Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain
DNS server address automatically are both selected on the window
titled “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties”.
14)
If you made any changes to Internet Protocol Version 4
(TCP/IPv4) properties, try opening Internet Explorer again.
15)
If you get a connection, proceed
directly to the instructions titled “Instructions for Accessing ResNet”.
