Introduction
Security measures have been implemented to prevent disruptions to the network caused by virus outbreaks.  This system is designed to verify that all computers have an up-to-date version of Symantec Antivirus installed and all critical operating system updates have been installed.  If you do not have a copy of Symantec, you will be prompted to download it while following these instructions.  This is provided by the College at no charge.

Please follow the steps below to determine if your computer meets the minimum requirements for accessing ResNet:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.  The following page should appear.  This page will redirect you to the Authentication page where you will sign on to the network.  If a Security Alert box appears as shown below, click OK.

Windows Update

If your computer does not have the latest critical updates for windows installed, a screen similar to the one shown below will appear.  Click Go To Link.  (Internet Explorer must be used to open the Windows Update page.  Browsers such as Firefox will not open the Windows Update page.)

Note:  If a screen appears listing “Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition” next to Name instead of “Microsoft Windows Updates”, skip ahead to the section titled Symantec Antivirus.  You already have all of the required updates for Windows.

After clicking Go To Link, the Windows Update site similar to the page shown below will appear.

Note:  Additional updates may still need to be installed after restarting.  So, the process of updating Windows may require multiple restarts.

Symantec Antivirus

If your computer does not have an up-to-date version of Symantec installed, a screen similar to the one below will appear.  Click Go To Link.

This will take you to the Antivirus page.  This page will provide you with instructions on how to download your copy of Symantec.  Please follow those instructions carefully.

Once you have successfully installed Symantec, select Next on the Clean Access screen or re-login using the Clean Access client.  (See “Login Using Clean Access” section of this document)
