Network Cards for Wired Residence Halls

If you live in a wired residence hall, you will need a wired network card.  Almost every new computer (desktop and laptop) will come with a wired network card already installed.  In this case, you will only need to purchase a category 5 Ethernet cable.  Cables (10 ft. and 25 ft.) are available at Campus Technologies.  

If your computer does not have a wired network card installed, one can be purchased at Best Buy, Staples, Wal-Mart, etc.

Network Cards for Wireless Residence Halls

Wireless Desktop
If you are in a wireless dorm and have a desktop, you may need to purchase a wireless network card/adaptor. We recommend a wireless adaptor that connects through a USB port on your computer. These are easy to install and usually receive a better signal. These can be purchased at Best Buy, Staples, Wal-Mart, etc.

Wireless Laptop
Most new laptop computers will come with a wireless network card already installed. Wireless cards for laptops can be purchased at Best Buy, Staples, Wal-Mart, etc.

Campus Technologies will install and configure your card for a fee of $49.
